Cantilever Support Rack (Cantilever Racking) is an industrial racking system designed without front columns, specifically used for storing long, bulky goods such as: Steel pipes, aluminum bars, sheet lumber, fabric rolls. With load capacity up to 1,000kg – 5,000kg/support arm level, this is the optimal solution for construction material and mechanical manufacturing warehouses. cantilever rack, support arm rack
1. Why Do Selective Racks “Give Up” on Long Goods?
If you’re trying to force 6m long steel pipe bundles into conventional Pallet racks (Selective), you’re facing major problems:
❌ Column obstruction: Front columns of Selective racks hinder goods placement.
❌ Space waste: Must leave large clearance for goods maneuvering.
❌ Safety hazard: Long goods easily slip off beam supports.
👉 Long Quyen Cantilever Rack completely solves this problem with its “Cantilever Arm” design extending from the central column, creating a continuous storage surface with unlimited length capacity.
2. Technical Structure & Load-Bearing Principles of Cantilever Support Rack
Long Quyen’s Cantilever system is manufactured from imported JIS G3101 steel, comprising:
A. Upright Column
Uses solid cast I-Beam or H-Beam steel (No thin pressed steel).
Withstands dynamic loads and heavy vibrations.
B. Cantilever Arm
This is the most critical component. We offer 2 types of support arms:
Straight Arm: Used for square-shaped goods (Lumber bundles, Large pallets).
Inclined Arm: Slopes toward the column, with end stops. Specialized for round goods prone to rolling (Steel pipes, PVC pipes).
C. Smart Pivot Joint (Pivot Arm Technology)
(Unique Selling Point – USP) Unlike others who weld arms permanently to columns, Long Quyen’s support arms are connected via Pins.
👉 Benefit: When forklifts accidentally hit the support arm from below, the arm automatically springs up (thanks to the pivot joint) instead of breaking or bending the column. Protects both rack and forklift safety.
3. Standard Technical Specifications for Cantilever Support Rack
| Material | Cast I-Beam / H-Beam Steel (Japanese JIS Standard) |
|---|---|
| Column Height | 2.0m – 6.0m (Customizable according to warehouse height) |
| Support Arm Length | 600mm – 2,000mm (Single-sided or double-sided extension) |
| Load Capacity | 500kg – 5,000kg / Support Arm Level |
| Coatings | Powder Coating or Hot-Dip Galvanizing (For outdoor warehouses) |
| Safety Accessories | End Stops, Column Base Protection, Anti-Vibration Cross Bracing |
4. Practical Applications of Cantilever Support Rack
Cantilever Rack is the “backbone” of the following industries:
🏗️ Construction materials: Construction steel, Beams, Roofing sheets.
🪑 Furniture manufacturing: Raw lumber, Plywood, Long sofas.
🚗 Automotive industry: Exhaust pipes, Axles, Long spare parts.
🔌 Electrical utilities: PVC pipes, Galvanized pipes, Electrical cable rolls.
Structure of cantilever rack:
Cantilever racking has four main features:
- Steel column : Attached directly to the support frame
- Horizontal and diagonal braces : Keep the system stable. The size of the tie bar depends on the product being stored.
- Lever Arms : There are different types of lever arms, which can be straight or inclined.
- Base : Supports the steel column and keeps the system stable. The size of the base depends on the load arms.
Advantages of Cantilever Support Rack:
- Good load-bearing capacity, not affected by bad weather conditions
- Center column design creates wide horizontal space, increasing storage capacity
- Easy to customize and remove parts.
- Can use forklift to reach and pick items from shelves
- Easy loading and unloading of goods, reducing work processing time.
Disadvantages of cantilever racks:
- Less efficient when storing pallets
- Aisle space between each shelf is required.
Things to note when using cantilever racks:
When using cantilever racks in the factory to store large or complex-structured items, the following factors should be considered to ensure safe operation:
- Do not add arms or modify supports in any way without prior contact with the supplier or discussing this issue with the factory’s technical department.
- Always use appropriate safety equipment when maintaining racks. Never climb or stand on the rack.
- Place loads on racks gently in vertical direction. Never drop, push or slide items to be stored on the rack.
Do not overload support arms, columns, or floors. Each racking system is custom designed to meet the load specifications established at the time of purchase. Do not exceed these loads without contacting your storage provider and discussing the issue with engineering.
Ensure all walkways are kept free of debris. Do not store documents in aisles, and ensure employees and visitors stay out of aisles when equipment is in operation.
Should periodically inspect cantilever support racks every six months. During routine maintenance, check all connections for missing or loose bolts. Replace any missing or damaged bolts or nuts, and tighten any loose bolts.
Check all arms for damage and replace any arms that are bent or drop below horizontal when loaded. Do not attempt to straighten a bent arm.
